Reflecting on My First Overseas Marathon: NYC 2019

It felt like just yesterday when I lined up at the starting line of my first overseas marathon in New York City in 2019. Accompanied by Anna and our incredible team, that experience was nothing short of transformative. It wasn’t just about the 26.2 miles we were about to conquer; it was a deep dive into understanding myself, the world around me, and the raw power of human endurance.

That race in NYC taught me invaluable lessons about persistence and consistency. I discovered strengths and resilience within myself that I had never known existed. Crossing that finish line wasn’t just about achieving a physical milestone; it was a testament to my inner fortitude and the unbreakable spirit that can carry us through the toughest challenges.

    Navigating Life’s Hurdles: Post-COVID Challenges

Since then, life had been a rollercoaster. The pandemic brought about a whirlwind of changes—both personally and professionally. Like many, I faced a series of hurdles: injuries, health issues, and the inevitable shift in daily life. Each challenge seemed to test my limits but also taught me the importance of resilience and adaptability.

The journey hadn’t been easy, but these very struggles refined my approach to running and life. Each setback, each moment of doubt, pushed me to grow stronger, both mentally and physically. Overcoming these obstacles redefined my goals and reignited my passion for running.

A New Chapter: London Marathon and Beyond

As I set my sights on the 2024 London Marathon with Anna and the team, I was reminded of the goals that once seemed so distant. The journey from NYC to London was more than just a race; it was a continuation of a personal odyssey. It was about pushing boundaries, setting new goals, and striving to live life to its fullest.

Training in a rural setting had its own set of challenges. The solitude could sometimes feel isolating, and traveling to different locations for varied training grounds was both a blessing and a burden. Managing the inevitable niggles and injuries, particularly in the latter stages of my training, required careful attention and a mindful approach.

    Embracing the Journey: Lessons Learned

One of the most significant lessons I learned was the importance of self-compassion. It was easy to be overly critical, especially when things didn’t go as planned. But I came to understand that being kind to myself and appreciating the journey was just as crucial as the physical training.

As I continued to train for London, my focus was not only on achieving a personal best but also on enjoying the process. Each run, each mile, and each day of preparation was a step toward something greater. It was about celebrating the small victories and staying motivated, even when the road got tough.

The path from NYC to London had been paved with challenges and triumphs. It reflected the essence of running and life itself—full of highs and lows, perseverance and growth. As I laced up my shoes for the next marathon, I carried with me the lessons learned and the strength gained from every experience. With Anna and the team by my side, I was excited to embrace the new challenges ahead and continue reaching for the stars. Here’s to pushing limits, setting goals, and savoring every step of the adventure.
